WHICH CLASS SHOULD I COME TO?
We Are Blessed offers classes at all levels. If you are a beginner, you might want to start with one of our slower classes, to allow you to really get used to being in the postures. At any level, It is always beneficial if you can start at the beginning of a course (see Classes). If you are unable to, then arriving 15 minutes before the start of the class so your teacher can talk you through the basics is helpful. Booking a private class with Niki is also a great option. Make sure you listen to your body and take rest whenever needed!
DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?
Courses are pre-booked by downloading the Blessed app or emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Power Yoga is a dynamic style of yoga. The Cowshed has underfloor heating and a wonderful wood-burning stove – you will never be cold! Plus, all those bodies in the room mean that classes can get pretty steamy! We advise bringing a towel and a bottle of mineral or coconut water, and to make sure you are well hydrated before the class. You are welcome to bring your own mat and block with you, if you have them, but all equipment is provided free of charge.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
We suggest wearing comfortable and light clothing. You will want to wear clothes that you feel comfortable moving and sweating in. Pretty much what you would wear to work out or run in….minus the socks and shoes.
DOES IT MATTER WHAT OR WHEN I EAT?
Power Yoga is a vigorous exercise pattern and having a full tummy will hold you back. We recommend not having a major meal a couple of hours before the class. If you are really hungry and it is close to the class time, grab something small and easy to digest, like a piece of fruit that will give you energy to hold you over.
WILL I FIND THE FIRST FEW CLASSES DIFFICULT?
The great thing about yoga is everyone can work within their own limits to realise benefits for themselves. Anything new requires a degree of adjustment so it is not unusual to feel challenged at first. Our experience is that people emerge from their first classes inspired by the way they feel and surprised at how capable their body is. Don’t be surprised if you have a few aches in places you didn’t realise you had muscles (!) but the good news is this is because Power Yoga works. The more you practise the stronger and suppler your body will become, energising you to enjoy your own practice.
WHAT IF I AM NOT FLEXIBLE?
Everyone is different and yoga is for everybody.
The masters of yoga constantly stress the fact that there is no such thing as the perfect yoga pose; the perfect pose is one which your body permits you to do. If you are not flexible, you will become more flexible and you will feel the real benefits of feeling looser and more free. In every class, as in all walks of life, you may be tempted to compare yourself to others. Don’t! This is about you and the progress you make with your body. All poses have a modification to assist students to progress their flexibility and strength without injury.
IS ONE CLASS A WEEK ENOUGH?
If you do one class a week you will surely notice a difference in your mental attitude to life and your physical well-being. However, once you have sniffed these benefits, we challenge you not to do more! Certainly, if you are practising between 2-3 classes a week you will relish your own progress and you will visibly see your body change.
I’VE GOT AN INJURY – CAN I STILL PRACTISE?
It depends on your injury. If you are in any doubt, please consult your GP before starting a yoga practice and take accountability for looking after yourself. Generally, Power Yoga practice is very adaptable and you can modify poses to accommodate most niggles. More than that, it has a powerful healing effect and often injuries go away with regular practice. Talk to your teacher before the class so that (s)he is aware of your condition.
DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE SESSIONS?
